Certificate Forgery: Nigerian High Court Refuses To Stop Anti-Corruption Agency, ICPC From Prosecuting Bauchi Federal Lawmaker, Garba-Gololo

26 July 2022 - 10:49am

The Federal High Court in Abuja has declined to restrain the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) or any prosecutorial agency from charging Mohammed Garba-Gololo with alleged certificate forgery.

Garba-Gololo is the legislator representing Gamawa Federal Constituency of Bauchi State in the House of Representatives.

Justice Taiwo Taiwo in a judgment delivered on July 25, 2022, held that the lawmaker failed to prove that he had already been tried for the offence of forgery or falsification of certificates.

The judge dismissed Garba-Gololo's double jeopardy argument as canvassed by his counsel Nureini Jimoh (SAN), noting that he failed to produce evidence showing that he had gone through any trial and was convicted or acquitted or pardoned of the alleged allegation.

The defendants in the suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/294/2022 are the AGF and the ICPC.
The 2nd Defendant had on October 5, 2020, sent a letter of invitation to Garba-Gololo in connection with the forgery allegation.

But the plaintiff, by an originating summons, sought an order restraining the defendants and other prosecutorial agencies from inviting, arresting or charging him on similar facts with the case of the Election Petition Tribunal and the Court of Appeal in suit nos: EPT/NAHR/BA/2019 and CA/J/EPT/NAHR/BA/374/2019 respectively.
He contended that any judgment charging him again before any court by the defendants or any prosecutorial agency would amount to double jeopardy.

He sought, among others, an order quashing the letter of invitation and any other subsequent investigation flowing thereof, "as same amounts to a nullity having regards to the judgments of the Election Petition Tribunal, Bauchi in EPT/NAHR/BA/6/2019 between Isa Mohammed Wabu & Anor. V. Hon. Mohammed Garba Gololo dated 10th August, 2019 and the Court of Appeal dated the 1st of November, 2019 in Appeal No. CA/J/EPT/NAHR/BA/374/2019 between Isa Mohammed Wabu & Anor. V. Hon. Mohammed Garba Gololo & 2 Ors."

He further sought a "mandatory prohibitive order of this Honourable Court, barring the Defendants or any other prosecutory agency in Nigeria from inviting, arresting, detaining and prosecuting the Plaintiff in connection with or arising from any transaction forming part of the judgments."

On June 15, 2022, when the matter came up for hearing, Jimoh for the plaintiff and Ebenezer Shogunle for the 2nd defendant adopted their processes, adumbrated on same and urged the court to grant the reliefs in favour of their respective parties, following which the court adjourned for judgment.

In rejecting Garba-Gololo's prayers, Justice Taiwo noted the Election Petition Tribunal and the Court of Appeal decisions he relied on to seek protection from prosecution, were both civil matters and could not fall under the doctrine of estoppel per rem judicatam.

He held: "There is no doubt that the decisions relate to election petition and are civil in nature. The decisions are not criminal notwithstanding that the issue of forgery was examined and the plaintiff was disqualified upon the finding of the court of appeal. The disqualification is pursuant to the provisions of the 1999 constitution and the electoral act.

"The suit was not a charge as expected in criminal proceedings and the plaintiff was not prosecuted by any prosecutorial agency. The parties that the decisions of the courts relate to are the plaintiff and the petitioners vide the election petition. The decisions cannot, therefore, operate as estoppel per rem judicatam.

"The plaintiff herein has failed from the processes filed by him to prove that he stood trial and was convicted or acquitted or pardoned.

"There is nothing to show that the plaintiff has been tried for offence of forgery or falsification of certificates.

"In concluding this judgment, it is my humble and well-considered view that the plaintiff has failed woefully to convince the court to answer all the questions for determination in his favour thus entitling him to the reliefs sought. I so hold.

"The suit fails in its entirety and the same is accordingly dismissed. This is the judgment of the court."

BREAKING: Terrorist Attacks In Nigeria’s Capital, Abuja Force Body Of Benchers To Change Venue For Admission Of New Lawyers From Law School

26 July 2022 - 10:29am

The Nigerian Body of Benchers has changed the venue of the Call to Bar Ceremony for successful aspirants scheduled for Wednesday, July 27, 2022, over the state of insecurity in the nation’s capital, Abuja.

The Body of Benchers is a professional body concerned with the admission of prospective students into the Nigerian Law School. The body also regulates the legal profession in the country.

The event was earlier scheduled to hold on the premises of the Nigerian Law School in Bwari, but it has been shifted over security concerns.

Some officers of the Presidential Guard were killed by terrorists close to the Law School on Monday.

During a telephone conversation with TheNigeriaLawyer, the Secretary of the Bench of Benchers, Daniel Tela said after a meeting on Tuesday afternoon, the body decided to relocate the venue of the ceremony to the Body of Benchers' permanent site in Jabi, FCT.

Tela also noted that the event is exclusively for aspirants, stressing that family members and well-wishers would not be allowed to be part of the programme.

Some Nigerian Army personnel attached to the Guards Brigade lost their lives in an ambush by terrorists in Abuja on Monday.

SaharaReporters had reported that a Captain of the Nigerian Army and two soldiers were killed by terrorists in the Bwari area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

The deceased officers, who were attached to the Presidential Guards Brigade, were reportedly ambushed after they visited the Nigeria Law School in Bwari following a distress call from the authorities of the school.

There have been hints that terrorists are planning to attack the Nigerian Law School in Abuja, the Central Mosque, other worship centres and security formations in the FCT.

This comes barely a month after terrorists who later identified themselves as members of the Islamic State West African Province (ISWAP) attacked the Kuje Correctional Centre in the nation’s capital, releasing hundreds of inmates including Boko Haram fighters.

On Monday, the Federal Ministry of Education ordered the immediate closure of the Federal Government College, Kwali, in the Kwali Area Council of the FCT.

It was gathered that the closure of the school came after a security breach on Sheda and Lambata villages and suburbs of Kwali Area Council which also threatened FGC Kwali.

SaharaReporters had earlier reported that the Nigerian Government, through the Federal Ministry of Education, had ordered the closure of all Federal Government Colleges (FGCs) in Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja due to rising insecurity.

The government directed the immediate evacuation of the students because of the threat to their lives, security and well-being, SaharaReporters learnt on Monday.

It was learnt that on Sunday night, a yet-to-be-verified report trended on social media indicating that there were heavy shootings in Federal Government College (FGC), Kwali, Abuja, and that parents rushed to the school to ascertain the safety of their children and possibly return home with them until calm was restored.

When contacted by SaharaReporters for comments and clarification on Monday, the Federal Ministry of Education said it would release a statement on the issue later in the day.

However, in a letter signed on Monday by the Ministry Director Press and Public Relations, Ben. Bem Goong, the Minister noted that the closure became necessary because of the insecurity in the area

He added that the timely intervention of security agencies saved the situation.

In the letter, the Education Minister, Adamu Adamu also directed that arrangements should be made for final-year students to conclude their NECO (National Examination Council).

"The Minister also directed Principals of Unity Colleges across the country to liaise with security Agencies within their jurisdictions in order to forestall any security breach in our schools," the statement said.

Law Firm Petitions Nigerian Deputy Police Inspector-General Over Alleged Killing Of Man By Policemen Guarding Smartbricks Property Boss, Duke Solomon

26 July 2022 - 10:06am

Ibile Partners, a law firm situated in Lagos State has accused police escorts attached to Duke Solomon, the Managing Director of Smartbricks Property of allegedly killing a man identified as Marcus over a land dispute in the state.
The law firm in a petition to the Deputy Inspector General of Police accused the Deputy Commissioner in charge of the Lagos State Command of trying to pervert the course of justice by “detaining the investigation officer from Noforija Police Station, and in return gave the murderer a VIP treatment, to be sleeping in hospital rather than detention.”

It asked the police boss to order an investigation into the claims and uncover all criminal acts and conduct that led to the loss of life, grievous bodily harm and injury to another person.
The petition letter, which was sent through the Commissioner of Police, Homicide Department, Force Headquarters, Luis Edet House, Abuja, read, “We act as solicitors to Odoyangusin family of Epe, Lagos State herein referred to as our Client, and on whose express instruction we write this petition.
“Our Client Odoyangusin Community are the customary owners of the large expanse of vast land, lying and being situated at Odoyangunshin Community, Eredo FCDA, Epe Local Government Area of Lagos State, which is now a subject matter in suit number: EPD/11441LMW/2022, in a High Court of Lagos State, holding at Epe before Hon. Justice W. Animahun.
“In a ruling dated the 2nd day of June, 2022, the court ordered that parties to the suit should maintain Status Quo, pending the determination of the matter. However, contrary to the order, it was brought to the notice of the Court that, the Defendants in the said matter, are flouting the court order of Status Quo, pending the determination of the said suit; instead of the Defendants to abide by the Court order, they have continuously, deliberately, disregarding and jettisoning the order of the court, and carry on business as usual, by continuously working on the subject matter of the case in court.
“This prompted the Judge on the last hearing date, to issue a directive to the Claimants to go to the subject matter, to take pictorial and video of the continuous act of flouting court order, by the Defendants and furnish the court on the accusation of the Defendants' continuous work on the subject matter.
“In a bid to actualize this directive of the Court, the Court Bailiff, in the person of one Mr. Arogundade, went to the Land in question to take the pictures of the current work on the Land as directed by the Court, but the Bailiff was prevented from taking the pictures by the above-mentioned persons, wherein one Lola Olumoko shot into the air to scare people away, and threatened to kill the Bailiff or anyone that dare come to the said land to take any picture, as a result of which the counsel filed an affidavit to that effect in court informing the court of the happenings.
“The Community-accredited representative of the Odoyangusin, under the leadership of Chief Francis Adebambo ordered the youths of the community to go on the land to take the pictures. On that Tuesday, the 19th day of July, 2022, the said youth led by Akala Oluwasesan, and other members of the community, which include; Marcos, Akala Sesan, Laja Adelaja, Sikiru Adebambo and others, went to the land in dispute to take pictorial and video, evidence of the Defendants’ continuous working on the land, to file and inform the court as directed by the Judge. On getting to the land on the said date, they met men working on the land and got hold of the men working and took their pictures and the work done so far.
“On their way back home, they were attacked by one Duke Solomon of SmartBricks Property, who had been informed of their presence to take pictures of those working on the said subject matter. He (Duke Solomon) had with him a Police Escort, and hoodlums met on their way going back. The said Duke Solomon firstly met with the youths on their way returning from the Land and tried to stop them but they refused to stop; unknown to them, he turned and trailed their car behind while he had already contacted his boys to accost them in front. The said hoodlums which include Lola Olumoko, Sikiru Olumoko, Bidemi Amusa, Gabriel Amusa, and Fisara amongst others, accosted the said youths in front, forced their motorcycle to stop and threw the riders away from the bike, while they were beaten with several weapons and machete them, wherein one Sikiru Adebambo, sustained grievous bodily harm in his head and fainted due to loss of blood, thinking he was dead and the other guy (Laja), on the bike managed to escape the scene.
“While those on the bike were already dealt with, the vehicle conveying others was forced to stop, as they could not ride on the bodies lying on the road, to their surprise, the said Duke Solomon’s vehicle that contain himself, his Police Escort (Solomon Shadrack) and his driver was already behind them.
“As a result of the above, Duke Solomon (MD Smartbricks), ordered his orderly to open fire on the car conveying the youths, when he angrily said to his Police Escort (Solomon Shadrack), shoot them! Shoot them! It was then the Police escort that followed Duke Solomon started shooting and aiming his shooting directly at the vehicle, that had been obstructed by the motorcycle that was earlier attacked. The reckless shooting of the Police escort resulted in the killing Mr. Marcos, one of the community’s family members, who was killed by a gunshot by the neck, and another person, Mr. SANYA sustained a gunshot injury that landed him in hospital, begging for his life as we write this petition. It was as a result of this that Akala Sesan ran to Noforija Police Divisional Headquarters, at Eredo, Epe and reported the killing of one of them, and the gun injury of another person with them.
“The Policemen from Noforija Police Station, moved to the scene of the incidence, met and arrested Duke Solomon, Police escort, his hoodlums and those working on the land, and took them to Area J Police Headquarters, and ACP Agboola, the Area Commander of Area J Police Command, at Elemoro said it is beyond what they could handle because it involved homicide, he instructed the DPO of Noforija Police Station to go and take the confessional statements of the Complainant, and the Accused Persons and the matter be taken to the Homicide Department of the State CID, Panti.
“It was on the 20th of July, 2022 that the IPO in charge of the matter, took the Accused Persons to Panti Police State CID, following the directive of ACP Agboola of Area J Command, Elemoro.
“It is with utmost regrets we are registering our disappointment and displeasure by the news of the development, and follow-up of events, unfolding at the State CID Panti. We observed and perceived foul play in the State CID, Panti in handling and investigating the matter, as the Deputy Commissioner there started showing bias, by giving preferential treatment to Duke Solomon, an Accused Person in a homicide case.
“More shocking was the fact that the IPO that took the suspect to the State CID Panti was arrested and detained for handcuff, describing the said Duke Solomon, who the DC Panti as VIP, but to the law, he is the Principal suspect and the Complainants, were also detained at the State CID, Panti asking for a very huge sum of money to release the Complainant.
“This practice of selling justice and fairness to the highest bidder found very common in our society, an act that will only further strengthen the favouritism accusation levelled against the Nigerian Police institution by the society, the trend of such is tarnishing, and wrecking practices of the Nigerian Police Force, and if not curbed and or if left continue to linger on, by the activities of Police officers who handle with levity sensitive matters, such as the one at hands when the accused person is well to do, and influential member of the society who can either buy their way out and allow them to go scot-free, will cause more further doom for the Nigerian Police Force and the Country at Large.
“The Officers at Panti did not only stop at giving Duke Solomon special treatment, but also had the IPO from Noforija Police Station arrested, and locked up for doing his job and doing the need by ensuring that Duke Solomon was handcuffed not to escape justice, and treated the same way in accordance with the other accused person because his (IPO) believe all animal are equal. This feckless, reckless and careless directive at the State CID, Panti to give Solomon an accused Person, special treatment and handled a case of that magnitude that involved the loss of a humans life and another in hospital, begging for life is uncalled for, unexpected and unacceptable of Senior Police Officer, who is trusted and expected to be fair, equitable and just in his judgment and discretion, at all time no matter whose Ox is gored; and also protect the Police institution’s reputation, of which he is a member that the present Inspector General of Police and his teams are toiling day and night to rebuild and make one of the best Police Force in Africa cum the World.
“It is in view of the development that we petition, the garrulous and pit of hell kind of approach, being on display here by the State CID Panti, and the handling of the subject matter at hand that involve homicide to your good office, an office (Homicide Department) that we so much trusted, not to allow this kind of daylight robbery, that is being clearly portrayed to prejudice, preconceived perfected and perpetrated by the State CID Panti, and rob getting to the root of this matter, be a thing of the past. If these perpetrators are allowed to go without allowing them to face the wrath of the Law, such will amount to a slap to the Criminal Justice System, which the Nigerian Police is the entry point and integral part of.
“Allowing such injustice as perceived, is like a pathway to lack of trust in the Nigerian Police Force, by the society at large, and will only strengthen jungle justice, that the Nigerian Police is campaigning against and can also result, to the members of the society to resolving to self-help, which might result to a breakdown of law, and order that the Nigerian Police Force is enshrined to prevent at all time, hence the Nigerian Police need to lay precedence with this kind of cases, that will serve as a deterrent to every member of the society irrespective of status and pockets.
“We hope that this wake-up call to the Nigerian Police, to follow through on this matter and conduct a rigorous, thorough and unbiased investigation, to see to the bedrock of this matter, and not be allowed to sweep the case of this magnitude under the carpet, by men of the Nigerian Police, who are hellbent on creating enmity between the society and the Police, by the way of the Police scrupulous element in Police Uniform, in their wild goose chase that is meant to serve the interest of those who have the confidence of buying their way out, whenever the wrath of the law caught up on them.
“It is in the event of the above, that we petitioned your good offices to carefully investigate the above-named persons, and uncover their criminal act and conduct that led to the loss of life, and grievous bodily harm injury to other persons.
“It is therefore with painstaking equanimity, that we urge your good office, to lend eagle eyes at this matter with immediate alacrity, by taking over the matter for a proper and thorough investigation, to reveal the fact and position thereby halting and preventing the miscarriage of Justice, orchestrated and being perpetrated by the State CID, Panti.
“Sir, unless Your Good offices urgently take over this matter, and investigate these criminal acts of terrorizing, maiming and killing by the above-mentioned persons, the above-mentioned person will continue to use their influence and power, to terrorize the said community. As such, your Office is called upon to discreetly investigate the seemed-above-the-law individuals, and bring them to check.
“We will at this juncture keep dry our keg of gunpowder, dry and trust your good office as you attached the utmost urgency to prevent further damage, of the criminal element of this matter and prevent the evidence from being tampered with as we relied on your good office, as always on your unbiased professionalism at all time.”

Buhari Writes Senate To Confirm Ariwoola As Chief Justice Of Nigeria

26 July 2022 - 9:53am

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday wrote to the Senate seeking confirmation of the acting Chief Justice of the Federation, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, as the substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria.
The letter from President Buhari was read on the Senate floor by the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, during Tuesday's plenary.
Buhari pointed out that his letter was pursuant to Section 1(1) of the 1999 Constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Justice Ariwoola became the acting CJN last month following the resignation of the former CJN, Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad, who resigned on health ground.
On June 27, Buhari had sworn in Ariwoola as the acting CJN.
He took over from the immediate past CJN, Muhammad who resigned in the last week of June.
He was formerly a Justice of the Court of Appeal and was elevated to the Supreme Court bench following his transfer from the State High Court of Oyo State.
SaharaReporters had reported that Tanko was forced to resign as the Chief Justice of Nigeria.
There were several reports that he resigned on the grounds of ill health but the sources said it wasn’t a voluntary action as he was forced to leave office.
“The CJN was forced to resign, He didn’t voluntarily resign. He was unaware when he got to the office this morning that he would be leaving. He was expected to declare open a workshop at the NJI (National Judicial Institute). He was preparing for the conference when he read it somewhere that he has resigned.
“The Presidency cabal waited to boot him out after Mary Odili retired. It is part of their plans for litigation ahead of 2023 elections,” one of the sources had told SaharaReporters.
A source however told SaharaReporters that the Iseyin-born jurist has a terminal illness.
“Do you know that Ariwoola is ill as well? He may leave soon on health grounds. That’s even if they send his name to the Senate for confirmation,” the source had said.
“We pray he grows very old but because of his ill health, he may end up acting for a few months.”

Nigerian Police Kill Six Gunmen Who Kidnapped Private University Student In Cross River

26 July 2022 - 9:47am

The Nigeria Police Force, Cross River Command, has said that its operatives on Monday killed six suspected gunmen who kidnapped a student of a private university, Arthur Jarvis University, last Tuesday in the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Irene Ugbo, who confirmed the development on Tuesday said that the criminals were killed during a gun duel with a police team.

The police spokesperson said that the police team was relentless soon after the incident, and had to unleash its dragnets throughout the surrounding forests where the victim was suspected to have been dragged into on the night of her abduction from the university.
“The six suspects were killed during a shootout with the crack team that “smoked them out.”
“Remember we warned earlier that any criminal in the state should leave Cross River. We have moved to the next stage. We are going after the criminals very hard this time, even in their hideouts. No more warning, enough is enough.
“We want to assure law abiding citizens to go about their lawful activities. We urge them to always share information with us because security is everybody’s business,” she said.
Commenting on the police’s successful operation, the founder and chancellor of the university, Arthur Jarvis Archibong, extolled the cooperation and efforts of the security agencies, particularly the police for their professionalism in rescuing the abducted student.
Archibong noted that the security forces were tireless and committed during the rescue exercise, which led to the neutralization of the suspects.
He however debunked the speculation that the school was forced to close as a result of the terrorists invasion and abduction of the student.
He said, “We were billed to close by Friday last week, before the incident happened. So the news making the rounds that we closed indefinitely is absolutely false.
“We want to assure every parent and ward that the safety and welfare of their children, our students are keys.”
The chancellor therefore assured that the school had taken measures to forestall further occurrence of such security breach in the institution.

I Never Stepped Down For Governor Umahi, I Am Still In The Race – Ebonyi Aspirant, Agom-Eze

26 July 2022 - 9:42am

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Senatorial aspirant in Ebonyi State, Mrs. Ann Agom-Eze, has said that she still remains the party’s candidate for the Ebonyi South Senatorial District.
Speaking with The Guardian on Monday in Abakaliki, Agom-Eze insisted that she was still in the race and had never accepted any gift from Governor David Umahi to step down for him.

Recall that there was rumour which made the rounds that Agom-Eze collected N40 million Toyota Prado Jeep, a house, cash and landed property to step down for Governor Umahi who switched to contest for Senatorial seat after scoring 38 votes at the APC presidential primary election earlier in June.
However, Agom-Eze denied the rumour, describing it as baseless, unfounded and diversionary.
Her claim came after a Federal High Court sitting in Abakaliki ordered for a rerun primary for Ebonyi South Senatorial District with Mrs. Agom-Eze included in the list of contestants.
The judgment was sequel to a suit filed before the court against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) by Umahi, through his legal counsel, Roy Nweze Umahi.

How My Career Almost Ended When I Got Injured In Nigeria – Gold Medallist, Tobi Amusan Recalls Early Challenges

26 July 2022 - 9:41am

A Nigerian twitter user, Ayanfe Beloved Adeyemi, has featured an interview with Nigerian hold medallist female athlete, Tobi Amusan, who broke world record at the World Athletics Championship Women's 100m Hurdles in Oregon.
Adeyemi berated the Nigerian government for “suddenly celebrating” Amusan, when she won the first ever Gold medal at the event.

Like many young Nigerians whose morale was killed while trying to build their talents within the Nigerian shores, Adeyemi said that the Nigerian government almost killed Amusan’s morale and talent while she was in Nigeria.
The 25-year-old woman from Ijebu Ode in Ogun State has been receiving applause from Nigerians and the Nigerian government since her victory.
Reacting to the Nigerian government identifying with Amusan’s success, Adeyemi via @ayfbeloved recounted the athlete’s ugly experience while in Nigeria.
He said, “Everyone suddenly cares of her (Tobi Amusan) success but I'm more interested in her story. They tried to kill her morale but now they (Nigeria government) are associating with her, including Eleyi the audio adopter. Indeed they turn it own elsewhere.”

— Ayanfe Beloved Adeyemi (@ayfbeloved) July 25, 2022

Amusan also in the 2 minutes 20 seconds video shared on Twitter by Adeyemi lamented how the Nigerian government neglected her in her most critical time, especially when she sustained an injury.
“When I was injured, they didn’t care about me. That is how my career ended. They only use you when you are good, they will dump you. If it's kudos, I don’t even want to hear it,” Amusan said in the video.
Explaining further in the video, the narrator said that “But as her passion grew, she found an unlikely ally in her mother.”
“My mom would cover for me and I was going for inter-school debates in Shagamu and then she would drive down there to give me my outfit,” the athlete said.
According to the narrator, “At the 2015 African Junior Championships in Brazzaville, Congo, she set a new games record and earned her way to a full scholarship to the University of Texas. Once Tobi got accustomed to her new home, she was off to the races, winning Gold in one international competition following another, and an NCAA international title in 2017.
“At the Nigerian Olympic Trials, her parents' earliest fear came true. Tobi felt the pain and disappointment that many athletes face competing in Nigeria. Tobi ran a blistering race in the 100ms Hurdles Final but the officials did not turn on the electronic timer.”
Recalling the experience, Amusan said “I called my coach, she told me that they know what I’m capable of. They saw it, even though they assumed that they did not time me, I know that you have that time in you. I want you to out to another track meter and prove to them that if they can’t record it at home, they will record it elsewhere.”
According to the narrator, “Tobi will have a chance to put the world on notice at the Olympic games,” following her recent win.

Buhari Government Gets Information Before Terrorist Attacks, Received 44 Security Reports Before Kuje Prison Attack – House Of Reps Deputy Speaker, Wase

26 July 2022 - 9:26am

The Deputy Speaker House of Representatives, Ahmed Idris Wase, Tuesday, revealed that the Department of State Services (DSS) presented 44 security reports to Nigerian authorities before the Kuje Prison attack in Abuja.

The Deputy Speaker disclosed this while contributing to a proposed motion to halt the planned ban on the use of motorcycles across the nation by the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Nigerian government.

According to Daily Trust, the motion was presented by Abubakar Makki Yelleman (All Progressives Congress - Jigawa) at the plenary on Tuesday.

He said: “You can imagine what is happening today in Abuja. I will be frank with you. I went through DSS reports. Forty-four reports were given before the attack of Kuje. I want to say so, I want to confirm to you, 44. I went through all the reports. And it all has to do with this.

“There is no community that one attack or the other will happen and we will not have an intel, and this is part of the intel that they have given as what is going happen, what is happening and what is not going to happen.”

Wase, however, said the government should be supported to implement such moves in vulnerable communities where the ban could check banditry, terrorism and other forms of criminality.

SaharaReporters had reported that the Islamic State-backed faction of Boko Haram, known as the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) claimed responsibility for the recent attack on Kuje Correctional Centre in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

On July 5, 2022, terrorists invaded Kuje prison and freed hundreds of inmates, including Boko Haram members in detention.

Insecurity Under Buhari Government Is Planned, Those Threatening Blood For Baboons, Dogs Responsible For Nigeria’s Security Crisis – Satguru Maharaj Ji

26 July 2022 - 9:25am

The founder of One Love Family, Satguru Maharaj Ji in the first part of this exclusive interview with SaharaReporters alleged that politicians threatening violence if power did not return to the North ahead of the 2015 presidential election should be blamed for the worsening insecurity in Nigeria.

President Muhammadu Buhari came to power in 2015 with a change mantra. What type of change would you say Buhari and the All Progressives Congress government have given to Nigerians at this point?

I have always been one of those supporting a great Nigeria, and so I'm not unmindful of the changing pattern of the political landscape from 1960.In this case where we are, I was supporting President Goodluck Jonathan until we came to know that there was an agreement he signed allowing him to only go for one term. The moment I knew it, I switched over to Buhari because there was no other way.

You must have seen my illumination about Mr. President because of the experience of 1985 when the War Against Indiscipline came up. He played a very good role with General Tunde Idiagbon. So, everybody was happy that the change had come.

So, on how far the change mantra has gone, I don't have full details about the government's performances in each ministry but I can see that there is a lot of changes. In fact, even on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. There were so many cars that were given to me, they got spoiled because of politics. They refused to repair the road because I am proclaiming that the original name of the creator is Maharaj Ji instead of God or Buddha.

So for roads, yes, I can see it. So many things are happening and there are some Nigerians who are feeling good and happy.

But in the area of security, power sector and education is where everybody is shaking now; because without good power supply, all the best countries have gone to the West Coast and we are now producing from outside. And without continuous education, definitely we are going to produce bandits and banditry will be in the upsurge.

When you talk about insecurity, that is even worse. But we know that all these events have their own spiritual intonations. First, I pick banditry, it is planned, one by the Anglo-Saxon Saudi group to make sure that an impression is given to say that Nigeria is not safe. Right now, insecurity is at its worst, education the same thing.

Despite daily killings and kidnappings across all the six geopolitical zones in the country, Buhari still said that his government has done well in terms of security. Do you agree with that?

No, I don't agree. If you check the indices of war that have broken in Russia, Yugoslavia, Sudan and many other countries, it is not up to 1% of what is going on here. Just like Nigeria, they have so much wealth that they have become poverty centres. So, insecurity is at its worst.

Between now and before 2015 when Buhari took over government, can you compare the periods in terms of security?

As far as I have said so, Nigeria's case is different from all the nations in the world. If you compare security at that time, there was somebody who was just a school boy and the Northern oligarchies were able to use him. If you look at President Jonathan, he didn't do anything in this area with all the amount of money, he only created two industries. Insecurity at that time was a set-up but the insecurity we see here today is planned. They said baboons and dogs will spill blood by Buhari, El-Rufai, all of them when they were threatening that power had to go to the North.

Today, they are the cause of insecurity because they are the ones who galvanised the whole game of insecurity going on.

Is the Nigerian economy better now than before this government came to power?

It was a bit better. I remember 1985 when Maradona (Ibrahim Babangida) just devalued the Naira. I can see 1974, we were funding the World Bank. They were borrowing money from Nigeria, but today, it is terrible. Not because there is no lack of yam, potato, rice, and cassava. Even up till now, we have not been able to meet up to 20% of cassava demand in the world market, yet, see what is going on. Definitely, the economy is not okay in the sense that the practitioners in power have failed. They are all not patriotic. They are overzealously doing things that you might call them agents of the Europeans. They are neocolonialists. They don't care. More or less you can call them feudals overlords. The economy as it is needs a change of footballers in the field of politics.

President Buhari has repeatedly said that his government has made Nigeria to be producing enough food including rice. How can you justify this claim?

He has done a lot in that area but most of the money is going to cola-farmers. There are some people sitting in the office who are manipulating the papers. The farmers are trying. My son is one of the chairmen of an agricultural company in Lagos. For almost 10 years now, they have been talking about giving them a loan but they would change it.They only give to their people. If you are a Muslim, you will get it or a Christian. They don't want anybody who is a traditionalist who will make sure that there is accountability. Finally, all the money has gone into private pockets. That is why we are not feeling the full impact, otherwise, how could rice cost N25,000 in Ibadan, N30,000 in Ife, when it is supposed to be N10,000 per bag.

And of course, the government has to subsidise. But the government that has not yielded on patriotism can never take aspirations of all the people in that zone into action.

Unemployment rate is currently at 33.3 percent in Nigeria, and youth unemployment rate is at 42.5 percent. Does this have any connection with the security situation in the country?

Of course, because when you say that the economy is booming, you are taking care of a child, boy or girl in primary school, secondary school, university and then they get jobs. But we are producing graduates, polytechnic, high school graduates who are roaming about and you see them selling spanners, matches and food on the road and these are great scientists of old who have reincarnated but because they don't have a government of conscience, they are suffering. This has been the case, whether in the North, South, East and West. Personality is ruling. All this joblessness is caused by the manipulators from Europe and America to make sure that our people don't cooperate and that they don't work together.

Definitely, a lot has to be done. I recommended and I still recommend that youths should be taken to a continuing education centre where they will be involved in agriculture and there will be classes going on. Some at the end of the day will choose to stay while some who want to go for further studies will go. In that case you don't see people walking about stealing, killing and all that.

But it is falling on deaf ears. So, unemployment will never stop until we sit up. Look at the journey to Libya and Europe, we have lost thousands of graduates on the way there. We have lost thousands of doctors who are in the UK. There is heavy manipulation.

There are a lot of people contesting to succeed President Buhari in 2023. Who do you think will win the 2023 presidential election?

The country is not run on equity, justice and freedom. If it does, everyone would have the right to say, this food, I don't need it. I have pounded yam, I don't want spaghetti from London.

Today, there are many politicians with their political fashion and political dexterity among the players as being that the North will assume power for eight years of two tenures. All of us have agreed and it has worked for Nigeria. So, today, it goes back to the South. I find it very hard to see somebody like Atiku Abubakar coming up. Is he crazy? Doesn't he know what is going on, that every eight years, the government will pass from here to there? Therefore, today, it is the South, and if you look at the South, there are many contestants there. We have Peter Obi, Moghalu and many others.

For those in the East, I am begging them that there is a snap there. If we cannot control the people in the East now, how can we control the whole federation? With one day sit-at-home? Killing here and there?

Some are saying it is Kaduna Mafias who are being covered up by the police and army to do all those things to present a picture that Nigeria is not safe. I do not subscribe to that because we need to use the best, we can get to spot these things. That leaves a question that everybody will be asking.

Afe Babalola, a legal luminary and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) offered six months of interim government but he fell short by saying that it is the National Assembly that will pick the members. National Assembly members who have been voting the wrong bills into action? Who are voting bills because they favour the North? It favours the South. It favours the East. Can't you see them? They call themselves Nigerians.

We lost Zik (Nnamdi Azikiwe) Ahmadu Bello, Obafemi Awolowo in this same game of freeing ourselves from the shackles of the colonial legacy that makes the Black man look stupid. So, they have to wake up and make sure that they support themselves. The whole thing looks like a charade; otherwise, who is Atiku? He would have allowed, maybe, Tinubu to pick Peter Obi as his assistant, let's see what will happen.

Then we tell Atiku, have you forgotten what happened in 2014 and 2015 when you and other ones said that power must move to the North, otherwise there will be fire? What are they saying now?

As one from the Southwestern region of Nigeria, what do you think about the presidential ambition of Bola Tinubu who is neck-deep in corruption allegations?

He is not the only one from the Southwest. There are many coming up. I'm not against him, only that I wouldn't want him to be so fanatic about Islamic things. Look at countries preaching Islam, they are all in doldrums, in trouble. Nigeria is where civilisation started. We will support him if he can prove it. When Jonathan was going round and round, even when he went to Alaafin of Oyo, the Alaafin told him that there was a man revealing God to people and that he needed his blessing but Jonathan didn't listen. So, let us tell Asiwaju that Maharaj Ji is waiting because that is my job.

I support anybody who is there and even for what he has shown in Lagos, but he should remember that if he is giving Christians this, Muslims this, Catholics this, what about I, who is saying, nowhere in Nigeria, come what may, since 1993. Even if Maharaj Ji is not here, what about Maharaj Ji's children? We can do much better. So, yes, I support Asiwaju in his presidential aspiration because the agitation going on is because people are very tribalistic and religiously inclined. So, we are not able to see the best in anybody because we result to emotions and sentiments instead of doing the right thing. I hope that when he gets there, he will be able to do the best like he did in Lagos.

There was a recent report associating Bola Tinubu with drug dealings. What do you say about that?

From the records we see, there is nobody who is climbing high that people will not talk about him. I believe that the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) during the time of Chairman Nuhu Ribadu were able to clear him except they have other new ones. He had cases in the US but he was cleared, except they have new ones; that will be wonderful. We look forward to seeing it. You know when we were coming up, they said that Maharaj Ji is an armed robber, a bloodsucker, everything bad, in Ibadan for that matter. But for 42 years, they have not held him. That is to tell you that people don't want to run down poor people but people who are on the top.

If anybody has any case, they should come up with it and we will treat it. I have hope in the rule of law and our justice system here.

So, are you asking the Nigerian authority to open an investigation on the report?

You mean something that has been decided a long time ago and the man has been cleared? What are they going to open? If the government feels that something is missing, they should come up with it. To me, I'm just hungry for a leader.

In October 2020, many youths were killed across the country, especially at Lekki Toll Gate during the #EndSARS protest. But the state governments and the federal government have not taken any action to give justice to the victims of that incident. What do you say about it?

It is so pathetic, so sad and any right-thinking Nigerian will feel so much pain and agony to see our children like that, it doesn't matter whether it is your own child or somebody's son. They are all Nigerians.

Committees of enquiry were set up and we are yet to see the outcome of it, but truly if nothing has been done yet, we want the government to see the need to make sure that Nigerians are able to believe in the APC government of Lagos State and the federal government. To make sure that the report comes out even if they will do it as a political gimmick to pay them during the time of getting prepared for the election, well and good.

They are Nigerians and don't forget that there is one natural law which says that what you do today, you shall reap tomorrow. All the officers involved, either governor is involved, managers; one day they shall be paid in that coin.

In the Bible, they said that sinners repent and ask for forgiveness; for where! Can the air forgive him? No! I am appealing to them now to see the need to compensate the families. They should forget about the counter reports here and there to appease the world. We might deceive people but we cannot deceive the power that sustains each and everyone on this earth. We are black people, we are not Europeans.

The blacks know that deities and oracles are there. They will punish whoever does the wrong thing. I believe that when the leaders see this interview, they will take steps to make sure that the compensations are paid fully to all the victims. Then, the police and the army who messed up should be punished. They should not leave them so that others behind will learn to behave well.

They cannot escape it. Any police officer, army officer, a public officer whether in the corporation, the law is there. Look at Europe. It is the mess up that they messed up that brought the whole earthquake and the torrents they are facing now. What they did to our great-grandfathers is what they are facing now.

Russia invaded Ukraine and there are terrible things happening there, but in extension, do you think that the Russian-Ukraine war has any effect on Nigeria?

Yes, a lot on every Nigerian, African and people of the world. Every activity going on physically has an origin in the spiritual. Don't forget that Russia in those years was helping Africans.

Now everybody is looking for where the light is so they can go there and tap the grace. The light was once in America. Now it is in Nigeria but the West are using the Northern group and some Eastern groups, Western groups inclusive to cover up because they brought the Bible and Qur’an, not Russia.

We read where the Russian government said that with the way things are going in Ukraine, they might use their nuclear missiles, and we can see Russia going to Iran which has been facing war with Israel. This could trigger a world war.

I was surprised to watch a video of some Nigerians who said they wanted to go and join Ukraine and fight against Russia. They are being stupid. How can you go and fight for white men that killed your great-grandfathers, and put iron on their necks?

Western leaders should please find a way to resolve the Russian-Ukraine matters because a small fire like this from there will affect everybody, especially in Africa where we don't know how to make milk, biro, or slippers because everything is imported from abroad.

Nigerian Labour Congress, Students Troop Out In Bayelsa As Governor Diri Meets Protesters

26 July 2022 - 9:14am

The Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri on Tuesday met with the protesting Nigerian Labour Congress members and university students over the lingering university lecturers’ strike.
Diri assured the workers that the government would ensure that the protracted university lecturers' strike was quickly resolved.

Among the unions which joined the NLC solidarity protest was the Niger Delta Students Union.
"We are participating in this National protest that has been organised by the Nigerian Labour Congress in support of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) over the non-implementation of agreement by the FG and to return our children back to school.
"This ASUU strike has been on for over five months and the Federal Government has failed to proffer solutions and it decided to deprive Nigerian students of their right to education.
“As we call now, education is a right and not a privilege and as such we have joined our hands together and spoken up in redeeming our educational sector.
"We are calling on all security agents to protect all of us who are out here unleashing our grievances and have also promised to be law abiding," the union said in a circular.
ASUU has been at loggerheads with the Federal Government since February 14 over the latter’s failure to honour some past agreements, among others.
The disagreement has kept students of public universities at home for the past five months.
Some other unions in the university system are also on strike due to disagreements with the Federal Government for different reasons.

Boko Haram, ISWAP Terrorists Mobilising Fighters, Heavy Weapons To Attack President Buhari’s State, Katsina; Bandits Planning Attacks On Lagos, Abuja, Others – Nigerian Security Agency, NSCDC

26 July 2022 - 9:01am

File photo used to illustrate story.

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has stated that Boko Haram and Islamic State for West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists have mobilised to attack President Muhammadu Buhari’s home state, Katsina.

Another intelligence report revealed plans by two bandit groups to attack Lagos, Federal Capital Territory, Katsina, Zamfara, Kaduna, and Kogi.

The NSCDC said from the intelligence gathered, terrorists had equipped themselves with dangerous weapons like Anti-aircraft guns and general-purpose machine guns, among others, in preparation for the attack on President Buhari’s home state.

These were contained in a leaked report dated July 25, titled, “Re: Heightened plots by terrorists to stage coordinated attacks in parts of the country,” and sighted by The PUNCH. The report signed by the Deputy Commandant General Controller in charge of Operations, DD Mungadi was addressed to all commands.

The report also hinted at plans by bandits groups to attack Lagos, Federal Capital Territory, Kaduna, and Zamfara states, adding that the Commandant General had directed the state Commandants to put measures in place to avert the attacks.

It read, “We have received credible intelligence that Boko Haram and the ISWAP terrorist groups have mobilised fighters and high calibre weapons particularly Rocket-propelled Grenade launchers, Anti-Aircraft guns, and General-Purpose Machine Guns which they intend to deploy for the offensive in Katsina State.

“In another development, two separate bandit groups are plotting coordinated attacks on North-West, North Central and South West (Katsina, Zamfara, Kaduna, Kogi, FCT and Lagos respectively).”

“Consequently, the Commandant General has directed you to scale up deployment in all strategic places including Schools, Worship Centres, and Critical National Assets in your respective states, to checkmate any possible threats by these criminal elements. Please treat as urgent,” the report added.

Abuja-Kaduna Train Attack: Baba Alagbado ‘Tinubu’ Should Sacrifice Himself To Free Nigerians In Captivity, By Buhari Olanrewaju Ahmed

26 July 2022 - 8:41am

Buhari Olanrewaju Ahmed

Nigeria is battling different diagnostic diseases that have affected the most sensitive parts of the body. Citizens are internally weak and helpless with a bunch of problems confronting them on a daily basis.
Our dignity has been sold to politicians, which is why hunger and poverty have now been deliberately weaponised by the same politicians who emptied our patrimony.

Insecurity in Nigeria under Dictator Muhammadu Buhari has become a nightmare. Thousands of innocent Nigerians have been kidnapped, and our roads have become a free war zone where terrorists accomplish their missions.

There’s no doubt that our security architecture has been compromised by the incompetent service chiefs who enrich themselves through the bloodbath in Nigeria. The Nigerian government has no sympathy for any Nigerian killed by these cowardly terrorists.
The importance of technology cannot be overemphasised and developed countries have taken advantage of it by being able to track criminals down to minimise the rate of crime in their countries. Nigeria, which claims to be the Giant of Africa, is the direct opposite of these developed countries. The country has been faced with terrorism for over a decade, yet appears totally helpless, as if complicit in the crimes.
Our security agencies, especially the self-styled Department of State Service [DSS] have failed woefully to apprehend these terrorists. This shows that DSS is either incompetent, complicit or bereft of ideas to track down these terror groups to make them face the wrath of the law for their heinous crimes against humanity. The DSS does nothing these days except chase placard-carrying protesters about, whilst terrorists walk freely about.
I was shocked as tears rolled over my chest after I watched a video clip of how these cowardly terrorists humiliated innocent people they abducted from the Abuja-Kaduna train. Meanwhile, the dictator in power is unmoved and unconcerned watching the people he swore to protect being killed and humiliated by these bloodthirsty terrorists. Never before have we seen the degree of insensitivity being exhibited by dictator Buhari.
The All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Amuda Sangodele, a.k.a Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the self-acclaimed democrat who has always imposed his wishes on the people at all times should prove to Nigerians that he rules this country by using all the available networks to secure the lives of innocent citizens who are currently under the captivity of terrorists. He should do this within 74 hours!
The former governor, Mr Sangodele made claims on national television that Lagos State under his watch was a safe haven. And if Mr Sangodele can curb crimes in Lagos State, as he so claims, he should use his “experience” as a former governor to secure the lives of the abductees from various terror dens.
As the 2023 general elections are moving closer, Nigerians need to exclude themselves from all religious and political sentiments to be able to free themselves from these afflictions. For a long time, criminal politicians have devised religion and ethnicity to divide oppressed and gullible people. We must not fall for this going into the upcoming elections.
Baba Alagbado should sacrifice himself for the country if he loves Nigeria as he claims. He should use all his available networks to secure the victims from the grips of terrorists or make himself available to them in exchange for the captives’ freedom. This man is, in fact, responsible for up to 50% of the problems we are facing after his support for dictator Buhari in 2015 and 2019. Known for his unquenchable thirst for deception, he claimed that the tyrant was a “converted democrat” and several other lies he told at the time.
Nigeria cannot be a great nation if citizens are not ready to take their destiny into their hands and admit to the mistakes made in electing disastrous people without ideas to occupy sensitive positions in the country. We cannot reinforce our mistake by electing those who are worse than the one who is presently inflicting us with untold affliction.
Obviously, our leaders – I was going to say cruel rulers, have failed woefully. And we cannot continue to pretend as if everything is well. It is about time to face the consequences of our actions and inactions by electing the right people into all positions in 2023.

U.S. Airport Shooter, Odufuwa Once Claimed She Was God’s Prophet, Married To Chris Brown, Angry Her Husband Allegedly Had An Affair – Police

26 July 2022 - 8:39am

Portia Odufuwa, the woman suspected of opening fire at the Dallas Love Field Airport Monday, has accused her husband of having illicit affairs, according to the Dallas Police.

Odufuwa said it was her husband's infidelity that upset her to cause chaos on Monday.

Dallas police said she had been dropped off at the airport and entered the terminal. “Odufuwa went inside a women’s restroom and a short time later came out into the ticket counter area and fired a weapon several times,” police said.

A Dallas police officer nearby engaged the suspect and shot her “in the lower extremities,” police said.

No other injuries were reported among passengers, airport workers or responding officers.

It’s unclear if she was aiming at anything specific, Chief Eddie Garcia said at a press conference Monday.

“At this point we don’t know where exactly this individual was aiming,” Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcie told reporters earlier.

A witness also said she saw the armed woman dressed in all black, walking in the terminal “with guns up.”

“We were at the counter checking in, and I was trying to check in and we heard someone yelling,” Judy Rawle told the station. “And we looked up and we saw her walking down with guns up.”

Rawle said she had heard from another witness that the suspect “was upset because her husband had got fired from somewhere.”

It was also revealed that the suspect was arrested in 2019 for a dismissed Booking photo case.

It was learnt that Odufuwa also previously told police she was ‘God’s prophet,’ married to Chris Brown.

Odufuwa had a series of run-ins with police, including a misdemeanor case last year when she was ruled unfit to stand trial and ordered to get help for her mental health, New York Daily News reports.

She has been charged with aggravated assault against a public servant, according to online jail records.

Before the airport shooting, Odufuwa had racked up a string of arrests for arson, robbery, criminal trespass and false reporting across North Texas, according to the Dallas Morning News.

In April 2021, she was accused of pulling the fire alarm at a Mesquite hotel after they refused to extend her stay. When police asked for her address, she allegedly gave that of Chris Brown’s mansion.

In October 2019, Odufuwa allegedly set a house on fire, but the Dallas County District Attorney’s office declined to press charges due to a lack of scientific evidence.

After telling police she was “responsible for the fire,” she said she had set the blaze because “I am God’s prophet,” according to an arrest affidavit obtained by the Morning News.

She also allegedly told officers that she wouldn’t say anything else until she talked to Brown, who she identified as her husband.

NLC Protest: Buhari Has Already Told Nigerians He’s Tired; He Must Go Home – Falana

26 July 2022 - 8:38am

Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, SAN, on Tuesday joined the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) in the ongoing nationwide protest in solidarity with the striking Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
The university lecturers have been on industrial action since February 14 over lingering issues with the federal government including university funding, earned allowances, payment system, reneging on signed Memorandum of Action, amongst others.

Joining the NLC nationwide solidarity protest in Lagos State, Falana said that the President Muuhammadu Buhari-led administration was dubious and had thrown Nigerians into poverty as living standards worsened under his watch.
Falana, who said that Nigerians did not vote for a regime that would cause them hardship, said that Buhari had told Nigerians that he was tired and therefore, he (Buhari) should go home.
Speaking during the protest, Falana said, “We are gathered here today at this protest ground to reject in its entirety the dubious acts of the Buhari-led administration.
“The living standards of Nigerians appear to be getting worse every day. We didn’t vote for a regime to cause hardship for Nigerians, and that is what is going on. As we are gathered here today, terrorism, hardship, depression, recession have taken over our country, but President Buhari is junketing all over the world.
“He has already told Nigerians that he is tired and he is anxious to go home. We are therefore saying today that Buhari must go. He must go. For the lecturers in our tertiary institutions and other workers, we are fully with you.”

Popular Hair Vendor, Smart Beyonce, Arrested With Cocaine By Anti-Narcotics Agency, NDLEA Paid Disgraced 'Supercop', Abba Kyari $35,000 Monthly To Bring Drugs Into Nigeria —Source

26 July 2022 - 8:34am

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 29-year-old socialite Ms. Onuorah Caritas Onyinye for alleged drug trafficking.

Onyinye, who was popularly known as Smart Beyonce and notorious for going braless was arrested at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu on arrival on an Ethiopian airline flight from Addis Ababa.

SaharaReporters reliably gathered the suspect was involved in drug trafficking with the suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, who is standing trial for allegedly dealing in drugs.

A source told SaharaReporters on Tuesday that Onyinye used to give Abba Kyari $35, 000 every month to get drugs into Nigeria through Enugu state.

"She used to give Abba Kyari $35k every month to get drugs into Nigeria through Enugu state," the source said.

It was gathered that the NDLEA operatives who had been trailing the suspect, upon her arrival thoroughly searched her luggage, which led to the discovery of 2.192 kilogrammes of cocaine concealed in two designer women's handbags with false linings.

SaharaReporters also learnt that she got involved in drug trafficking after her friend took her abroad and showed her how to make illegal money.

An NDLEA operative who confirmed the arrest to SaharaReporters on condition of anonymity said that she had yet to name her sponsors.

Efforts made by SaharaReporters to get the official reaction of the NDLEA were unsuccessful as the Head of Media and Publicity, Femi Babafemi did not answer his calls as his phone rang out.

SaharaReporters had reported that Deputy Commissioner of Police, Kyari and Commander of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) was arrested in February following his involvement with a drug cartel. He has since been suspended but is yet to be dismissed from the Force.

He was subsequently arraigned before an Abuja High Court and remanded in Kuje Correctional Centre in Abuja.

Kyari was first declared wanted by the NDLEA for selling cocaine consignment seized by IRT operatives from drug barons at the Enugu airport in January this year.

His involvement in the deal had raised questions in many quarters considering that he was under suspension last year because of his alleged involvement in fraudulent activities with Ramon Abbas, aka Hushpuppi who has already pleaded guilty to money laundering in the US.

I'm Also Concerned About Ongoing Strike By University Lecturers, ASUU, Enugu Governor, Ugwuanyi Tells Labour Congress Protesters

26 July 2022 - 8:31am

Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has told protesting members of the organised labour that he is equally worried about the prolonged strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

Hundreds of protesting workers marched from the Enugu State Labour House, at New Market, Enugu to the Government House, where they tabled their grievances before the governor.

Responding to the demands of the protesters, Ugwuanyi who was represented by the Secretary to the Enugu State Government, Prof. Uchenna Ortuanya, thanked the organised labour for the peaceful manner they conducted the demonstration.

"We share in your concern. We have always known that education is the foundation of the society. That's why this government has obtained NUC license for University of Medicine and Applied Sciences, Igba-Ano. We also attracted the Federal Polytechnic, Ohodo to Enugu State to boost access to education.

"We urge you to continue to engage with the federal government. We will effectively deliver your message to the President," he said.

Earlier in his address, the state chairman of NLC, Comrade Virginus Nwobodo, said the peaceful protest was held in solidarity with their colleagues in ASUU.

He accused the All Progressives Congress led-Nigerian Government of paying lip service to the issues concerning education in the country, saying it is "because most of them have the resources to send their children abroad."

Nwobodo said, "For every great nation, education is taken seriously. If these children are not well nurtured, the country is doomed.

"Every day we hear federal government borrowing trillions and yet it can't meet ASUU demand.

"They get involved in white elephant projects that have no bearing on the citizens

"We want to see them implement this agreement."
